What happens to your photo, your render, and your email when you use Trowelscape.
Who operates Trowelscape
Trowelscape is operated by Costless Contractors, Inc., the same company behind LUXE Surface Finishing, a microcement installation business in Spokane Valley, WA. Questions about this page or a request to delete your data can go to adam@luxesurfacefinishing.com or 509-262-4505.
What we collect
When you use the render tool: the photo you upload, the mask you brush over it, the color/finish you choose, and a device identifier generated and stored in your browser (not tied to your name). If you use more than your 2 free renders, we ask for and store an email address, associated with that device identifier, so the allowance can be tracked. The "Notify me" installer-interest form collects a zip code and email address.
Where your photo goes, and where it doesn't
Your uploaded photo and mask are sent to OpenAI, the AI provider that generates the render, via their image API. See OpenAI's own API data-controls page for how they handle submitted content on their end — as of our last review, OpenAI does not use API content to train its models by default, and their image API itself keeps no separate application-state copy, though their standard abuse-monitoring process may retain submitted content for up to 30 days under their published policy, separate from anything we do.
Trowelscape itself does not store your photo, your mask, or the rendered result anywhere, for any length of time. The render is generated and sent straight back to your browser for you to view, download, or share — nothing is written to a server, a database, or cloud storage on our end, and there's no URL anywhere that points to it after your browser tab closes. If you don't download or share it before you leave the page, it's gone; we have no copy to send you later. We do not sell your photo or email to third parties.
Renders created before this change shipped were stored under our previous architecture and are being removed automatically on the 30-day schedule that was in place when they were created — nothing is being kept longer than what was already disclosed at the time.
Rate limiting and abuse prevention
We log IP addresses briefly to enforce render rate limits and prevent abuse of the free-render allowance. This is not used for any other purpose.
The installer-interest form
Your zip code and email from the "Notify me" form are stored so we can contact you if an installer network becomes available in your area. We don't share this list with third parties.
